When I study, I prefer a calm atmosphere. I do not like to be at a crowded coffee shop or surrounded by things that could potentially distract me (and let’s face it, probably will). Putting earphones in is a great method I use to block out whatever is going on around me and focus on studying. I find that sometimes when I am studying I like to stray from my usual taste in music and listen to classical, lyric-less, music. It is engaging and enjoyable but unlike other music, I do not feel compelled to pay attention to the lyrics and I can focus solely on absorbing the information I am studying. I will admit that due to the fact it’s early December, Christmas music has made its way onto my study playlist.
To me, music is the oil component of a well oiled machine, the machine being ones brain while studying. It makes studying more fun, engages the brain, and lets you sing along to “Walking in a Winter Wonderland” while reading about why rivers meander (thanks, Earth Science). It helps to make a playlist beforehand so one does not waste time picking songs to listen to. I understand that listening to music while studying doesn't work for everyone, how does it work for you? If it does work for you, what kind of music do you prefer? At the bottom of this post I am attaching a link to some of my favorite instrumental songs to listen to while studying, enjoy.
