One of the most important things to remember is that once you get an idea and start writing, don’t stop. Revision has its time and place and is definitely an extremely important part of the writing process, but I think stopping every paragraph to edit hinders one's success. Once I feel that I have said all I can say about what I am writing, I take a break, whether it be getting a snack or just picking stuff up around my room. It is not just a break for my brain, but also for my fingers who have been endlessly slaving away at my keyboard.
After the break, I sit back down and read whatever I have written out loud. When you read your writing out loud it is easy to hear errors or recognize if something doesn't flow. When I am finished editing my writing, depending on what I am writing and what it is for, I might call it a day or I might ask one of my friends to look it over. George Orwell wrote an essay about why he writes and I find it to be not only a commendable essay but also inspiring. The writing process is what it claims to be, a process, but the satisfaction after typing something great makes it all worth it. At the bottom I am attaching my sacred tool, the vocabulary wheel. It is tremendously helpful and I would recommend using it any time you write.
